Fall is upon us
It’s that time again. Fall is here so you need to prepare your home’s plumbing.
- Switch off outdoor faucets: Switching off your outdoor faucets allows any excess water to drain out to prevent any unwanted freezing.
- Insulate those pipes: All your hidden pipes are susceptible to freezing temperatures during the wintertime! This could be in your garages, attic or crawl space. You can use heat cables by stringing them along the pipes and then cover with pipe insulation to prevent this from happening.
- Open your cabinet doors: Opening up your cabinet doors during the long stretches of cold weather can significantly reduce the risk of pipes freezing over. Doing this allows warm air to circulate around the pipes.
- Inspect the exterior: Do a thorough examination of the exterior of your home, checking for any visible cracks. If you spot cracks, these need to be sealed up before the winter commences, as the cold air seeping in can result in your pipes freezing over!
Preparing for the winter months by regularly checking on the state of your pipes will save many tears later on. Moreover, protection doesn’t need to be strenuous work, and if you notice that you need replacement or repairs, you can always call a team of local experts to assist!
